March 31, 2020: These buses were made for moving.

Lately we’ve seen images of empty streets and plazas that were buzzing with activity only days or weeks ago. It’s a reminder that we’re living through a different moment in time right now. For me, there’s an image I can’t shake.

Parked buses. Rows and rows of parked buses.

As an essential business feeding families, the Boys & Girls Club remains open, even though our traditional Clubs aren’t open to the public right now. When I pull into our parking lot in the morning, rows and rows of parked white Boys & Girls Club buses greet me. These are the buses we use to pick up students from school to take them to the Boys & Girls Club. We’ve secured them all together for safe keeping in accordance with our plan. But somehow it feels all wrong.

It’s odd how conversations that seemed bothersome before like how to pay for maintenance and new tires and how to find and hire bus drivers seem out of place now. What I would give to have those conversations back and to fill those buses up with kids right now!

These buses were made for moving.

Together we can,
