Parents, especially mothers, have been so grateful for dinner this week when they’ve pulled up to the Boys & Girls Club. It’s one less worry. One less stress in a day full of crushing pressure about what’s ahead.
Sometimes a thank you means even more because it’s completely unexpected.
I’ve worked at Boys & Girls Club for many years, and one of the greatest joys is seeing our young members grow up to become adults. Unlike schools, they stay with us as they pass from elementary and move into middle and then high school. It’s not unusual that they come back as adults to share retrospectively how the Club shaped them as people. Yesterday a mother drove in while we were serving meals curbside. She wanted to share her gratitude for how the Club has helped her. And, now that she could, she handed us an envelope containing a check with three zeros to help us take “care of our next generation”.
We’ve all had moments lately that have stopped in us our tracks. This was one for me. We all have capacity to care and to give. What we give and when we give it may come at different times for us all. Let’s decide to be there for each other always.
Together we can,
An Unexpected Thank You
